Stagecoach and
Climate Change
Below are
extracts of letters between the bus company Stagecoach and Peter Shullot about
climate change. The letters in full are at the bottom of the page. This is one
of 65 sets of letters so you can find out what your supermarket, energy supplier
and car manufacturer, and oil companies, airlines, house builders and other
companies really think about climate change. The name Peter Shullot is
made up – it is an anagram of The Polluters.
To Brian Souter, Chief
Executive –
Congratulations. In less than thirty years you have grown from a backstreet
outfit with two buses to a global empire with 12,000 buses, trains and trams,
carrying millions of people every day. My daughter Tracey is testament to your
success. She can now travel around with the country on her mobile phone without
having to look where she is going.
As a self-made man myself – computers are my game – I can understand the effort
and sacrifices you have made to achieve your success. Why I am writing is this
conspiracy about climate change. The government is using it as an excuse to hold
back big business and promote political correctness. Meanwhile Joe Public is
having its head turned by Bono, Monibot and that young boy in the Cabinet.
It’s time that someone stood up to this nonsense and you look like the man to do
it. I know you are up for a fight. Look how bravely you take on the bleeding
hearts over the rights of “gays” and something called LGBT. “Lesbian”, “Gays”,
“Bisexuals” and something else – or maybe LGBT is a radio station. You are ready
to stand up for what you believed in despite the loony lefty attempts to stop
you.
It’s time to put down the new political correctness of climate change and get on
with what life is all about – making money. Let me know if you would like a
sizeable donation to your campaign. It won’t buy me a peerage, but it will give
me much pleasure.
Could I ask for a photo for my teenage son Wayne? He’s taken to spending too
much time in his bedroom. A photo of you would be an example of someone getting
off his backside and doing something.
Brian Souter replied –
Thank you for your letter of 6 July and the positive sentiments expressed in
your letter. I have no plans at the moment to launch any new campaigns as my day
job is taking up the majority of my time, as I am sure you can understand.
Yours sincerely
Brian Souter
PS A photo is enclosed for your son Wayne.
