Suzuki and
Climate Change
Below are
extracts of letters between the car manufacturer Suzuki and Peter Shullot about
climate change. The letters in full are at the bottom of the page. This is one
of 65 sets of letters so you can find out what your supermarket, energy supplier
and car manufacturer, and oil companies, airlines, house builders and other
companies really think about climate change. The name Peter Shullot is
made up – it is an anagram of The Polluters.
To Takanori Suzuki,
Managing Director –
Thank you for the Suzuki Wagon R. Thank you for such a great performing MPV.
Shunning fashion, it’s as good as the day we bought it. As your slogan says, Way
of Life.
What concerns me is the amount of newspaper space given over to climate change.
We all know that it’s not happening. The papers should concentrate on what their
best at – criticising the government, crime stories to scare us, Jodie Marsh and
those funny little word puzzles from Japan.
Let’s face
it, what is a car? It is a sign of power, strength, identity. And I include the
Suzuki Wagon R in that like any other car. Whereas an “eco car” is something
that can’t even take a corner, mount a pavement or go from 30 to 70 in two
seconds as the traffic light changes from amber to red. If the greens have their
way, the car will be the school boy who gets beaten up in the playground.
It’s time for all this to stop. As Churchill said, We shall fight on the
beaches, we shall fight in the hills, we shall fight in the law courts, we shall
never surrender.
Suzuki replied –
We are very pleased that you have enjoyed owning your Wagon R+ and it has
exceeded your expectations. We welcome comments and feedback from our customers
about our products as they enable us to improve upon the service we offer our
customers.
