Total and
Climate Change
Below are
extracts of letters between the oil company Total and Peter Shullot about
climate change. The letters in full are at the bottom of the page. This is one
of 65 sets of letters so you can find out what your supermarket, energy supplier
and car manufacturer, and oil companies, airlines, house builders and other
companies really think about climate change. The name Peter Shullot is
made up – it is an anagram of The Polluters.
To
Malcolm Jones, Managing Director –
I’ll drive miles to
go to one of your petrol stations. Because I know that it will mean good
service, an excellent price and a choice of fags.
I’m
worried that we all being hoodwinked by concern about climate change. Surely
it’s clear that it’s a smokescreen put up by the greens to pursue their
anti-capitalist goals.
If these Luddites
have their way the world would turn red by stealth, with unelected commissars to
tell us what to do and think, and won’t tolerate any opposition. 1984
would be fact, not a film with John Hurt and Annie Lennox wailing on the
soundtrack, or a year when England failed to qualify for the European
Championship.
Now
don’t get me wrong. I’m all for free speech unless it’s for the greens and the
right to strike so long as it’s by traffic wardens, and even the right to form a
trade union so long as it’s not in one of my industrial units, but something has
to be done to put the greens in their place.
Total replied –
Malcolm Jones thanks you for taking the time to write to him and your loyal
support for Total UK and hopes you will continue to be a valued customer.
